MinecraftFree Multiplayer Server Method

Okay, so I found a way to help with the MinecraftFree multiplayer problem. Basically you have to host a special MinecraftFree server. It’s a modded version of the Minecraft Classic server that allows MinecraftFree to read it. Then, copy the URL and paste it into the Server URL textbox.
You should be able to play online!
Thanks for supporting me through-out this project, I will post download links when it’s ready for general release. If you want to beta test, comment below. I’ll give a copy to the first five people.
Thanks, and remember to comment!

MinecraftFree Multiplayer Working… Sort of

Alright, today I can officially say that MinecraftFree Multiplayer is working, v 1.0.0. There are a few bugs and restrictions such as we only allow Minecraft classic servers, which is annoying. We cannot get access to real Minecraft Servers because it would require hacking. We are still thinking of a way around this. So far, it looks good though, with minimal lagging. I’ll post some screenshots soon, if I remember 😉

MinecraftFree up and Running!

Woohoo!
MinecraftFree is now working almost perfectly! Unfortunately, if you try and connect to a multiplayer server, it won’t work. I’m working on it though! Although I can’t change it so that it will connect right from minecraft itself (that would require changing the code of minecraft!), I’m creating a separate program to allow multiplayer server connection, called MinecraftFree Multiplayer. I’ll package them together so that when you first launch MinecraftFree, before running any minecraft code, it’ll ask you if you want to play single player or multiplayer.
Beta testers have also discovered a minor flaw in that the full screen button does not work. That’s an easy fix in VB. Stay tuned for a download link!

MinecraftFree

Hey guys! Today I’ll show you my ongoing project. It is called MinecraftFree. It lets people try minecraft out. It’s just a program that mirrors the java applet on the minecraft website. This is not against the terms because it is just mirroring and is doing it via the Internet and not through downloaded files – i.e. I have not downloaded the minecraft game just to sell it, I am basically showing a web browser to the applet which is online. And I am not selling it.
The game in MinecraftFree is not the full version of minecraft, that would be illegal. Instead it is just minecraft classic which is available for free.
I have finished MinecraftFree and I am currently working on MinecraftFree Multiplayer. I’ll release both at the same time – free download.

Raspberry Pi Game Tutorial – Make Games for the Raspberry Pi!

Hey guys! Today I’m going to show you how to program games for the Raspberry Pi! We are going to make a very simple 2d game using the program Game Editor. This tutorial will go through everything! All you need is a Raspberry Pi! Okay, let’s go!

Firstly, we need to hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse to your Raspberry Pi. Make sure your SD card running the OS is in the Pi. Then connect the power lead. Wait until it has finished booting. Then, open up the web browser.

We are going to install Game Editor, so navigate to game-editor.com, or search game editor. Click Download, then click the link that says:

Windows (9x, Me, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 7), Linux and Mac OS X version

Install it to a directory you can find.

Unzip this file into the same directory. Then go to Applications, System Tools, Terminal. Once terminal has opened, navigate to the unzipped folder using the commands dir and cd. For instance, if the folder is in my Documents, I would first type dir and hit enter. It would list all the folders in it’s current directory. I see Documents is there, so I type cd Documents and hit enter. Then again I type dir and hit enter. I see the folder GameEditor so I type cd GameEditor and hit enter. When you think you are in the GameEditor folder, type dir and hit enter. If many files come up including gameEditorLinux, you are in the right place.

Then, still in the GameEditor folder, type the following:
chmod +x gameEditorLinux
Then hit enter. Quit out of terminal and navigate to the GameEditor folder through a file browser. Open up gameEditorLinux and a window should pop up, this is Game Editor!

Now you have installed game editor, let’s make a very simple game.

Click Add Actor and name it anything. Click add. A Pacman will show up. He is an actor. Actors are objects on the screen. Pacman is the default, so we’ll live it like that. Right click on him and click actor control. This is where we can edit things about the actor. Where it says events, click add, then click create actor, then add action. Click follow mouse, add, then immediate action. Then you can close. Click game mode and you will see Pacman following your mouse!

This is because we added the event create actor. This occurs when the actor is created. As the actor is created at the beginning, it is like an actor load event. We set it to follow mouse, so it would follow the mouse. When we ran the game, sure it followed the mouse!

To finish off, go to config, game properties and click on the button that says window and change it to full screen. When you go back to game mode, it will be in awesome full screen which will make it look cooler and that you really are making a game on the Raspberry Pi! Don’t forget to save your game!

Thanks for reading this tutorial! I went through a lot, so if you have ANY questions, please ask them in the comments section.

Have fun Raspberry Pi-ing!

Full Sketch Nation Studio Review

I managed to bag myself a copy of Sketch Nation Studio and I have had it for a day. I will now give you a full, detailed review on the app.
Firstly, the app is free to download on both iPad and iPhone (and iPod Touch). As it is a free app, and it is available for all devices, it gets full marks for the looks on the App Store.
Once you open it, you get a quick tutorial for making your very first game! Easy as Pi!
It’s very simple to learn and the labels are marked clearly, so you know what everything is. It’s got a built-in social network to share games and artwork, it even gives you ‘sketchbucks’ every time someone downloads your stuff!
There are five game types, up jumping, side jumping, down jumping, side running and side flying. With those, there are three game modes, simple, advanced and stand-alone app. In simple, you just change the artwork and your game is built! With advanced, you change everything, there are power ups, enemies, coins even a power up store that the player can access! You can add dust coming from the back of the player (for instance if it’s a car or a train). It is an awesome app!
Stand-alone app is just the same as advanced mode with one exception, you can send your game off so that it can be put on the app store! Yes, once finished, you have the chance to apply your game to sketch nation, who will decide if its good enough for the App Store!
The game will be sent off usually at the price off 0.99$ (69p). Apple[will take their 30% cut and the rest will be halved between you and Sketch Nation!
This app gets 90% on my app scoreboard! You should really check this app out.
